University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro Provides Community With Sneak Peek at New Hospital May 22, 2012

University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro (UMCPP) today provided community members with a sneak peek at the new hospital, which will officially open on May 22.

Thousands of area residents attended the community open house, where guests met with staff and enjoyed tours, screenings, entertainment, refreshments, prizes and giveaways.

In addition, the hospital held a special grand opening ceremony to celebrate the completion of the $522.7 million project, which broke ground in October 2008.

“The new University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro is designed for healing,” said Barry Rabner, president and CEO of Princeton HealthCare System. “The new hospital is the cornerstone of a unique healthcare campus that will provide virtually every level of care people need. It is truly a healthcare destination.”

Rabner was joined by Donald Hofmann, chairman of the PHCS Board of Trustees, along with as U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez, U.S. Rep. Rush Holt and Plainsboro Mayor Peter Cantu.

“I am proud of the tremendous work of our administration, our physicians, our nurses and our staff,” said Hofmann. “It’s their work, their belief and what they do every day with patients that will make this a vibrant facility for many, many years to come.”

The new UMCPP is among the most technologically advanced, patient-centered and environmentally friendly hospitals in the country. From the overall layout of the 636,000-square-foot building down to the smallest details in all 231 single patient rooms, every investment and design decision was evaluated on its ability to promote healing, comfort and safety.

Designed by some of the world's leading architects, designers, health planners and engineers, the new hospital and the surrounding campus incorporates the latest in green building principles and is equipped with the most advanced technology available.

The hospital is located off Route 1 between Plainsboro Road and Scudders Mil Road in Plainsboro and is expected to generate billions of dollars of economic benefits for the region.
