Best-Selling Author Gail Sheehy to Discuss Challenges of Caregiving May 6, 2010

Best-selling author and AARP “Caregiving Ambassador” Gail Sheehy will lecture on the challenges of being a caregiver on Thursday, May 6, at the Hamilton Area YMCA. The event, presented by Princeton HealthCare System and the Friends’ Health Connection, begins at 5:30 p.m. and includes dinner.

The author of 15 books, including the acclaimed “Passages,” Sheehy's works are known for exploring basic questions that apply to women and men as they move through the phases of their lives.

Her newest book, “Passages in Caregiving: Turning Chaos into Confidence,” deals with the often overwhelming experience of taking care of a mother, father, or a life partner, or a sibling with a chronic health problem. In it, she offers advice for caregivers on how to keep a loved one safe and satisfied, without sacrificing their own health and happiness.

A book signing will follow her talk.

In addition to Sheehy’s lecture, the evening will include a panel discussion on healthy living featuring physicians from the Princeton HealthCare System medical staff including gynecologist Maria Sophocles, MD; gynecologist and urologist Heather van Raalte, MD; and cardiologist John Passalaris, MD.

Information about PHCS home care services will also be available.

To register, or for more information, contact the Princeton HealthCare System Department of Community Education and Outreach at (888) 897-8979. The first 30 people to register will also receive a free copy of Sheehy’s new book.
